Returning rental items on time and in good condition is essential. Items can be returned in person or by tracked postage, and should be posted back on the last rental day using next-day delivery. Renters are responsible for safe return, including insurance. Communicate with lenders about holidays and follow their courier preferences.
Returning your item on time and in great condition is key to being a top-rated member of our community. Here is everything you need to know about the return process.
How do I return my rental item?
There are two primary ways to return an item, depending on what you and the lender agreed upon:
In-Person Return: We always recommend meeting in a well-lit, public setting for safety.
Postage/Delivery: Shipping the item back using a tracked service.
When should I post my return?
Items must be posted back on the last day of your rental period using a next-day delivery service.
Pro Tip: Always send the tracking number and proof of postage to your lender immediately after visiting the post office. This builds trust and provides proof that you’ve met your deadline.
Which postal service should I use?
While standard next-day services are common, they are not always guaranteed during peak seasons.
Highly Recommended : Guaranteed Return: If the lender requires it (or if you want peace of mind), you can pay an additional fee for a time-bound service (e.g., "Guaranteed by 1 PM").
Standard Return: Usually a 24-hour tracked service. Please note this usually doesn't arrive the next working day, so allow a little extra time if you wish to use this service.
Lender Instructions: Always check if your lender has a preferred courier or specific insurance requirements. Sometimes this is listed in their bio.
What happens if the item is lost or damaged during transit?
The renter is responsible for the safe arrival of the item back to the lender.
Insurance: We strongly recommend insuring the package for the item's Full RRP (Retail Value).
Claims: If the item is lost, the renter must compensate the lender. If you used an insured service, you can then claim that compensation back from the postal provider.
What if my rental ends on a Sunday or Bank Holiday?
Postage services often don't run on holidays. If your rental ends on a non-working day, you should:
Communicate: Ask your lender if they accept returns on the following working day.
Extend: Request to extend your rental period by one day to avoid automated late fees.
Can I return my rental from outside of the UK?
No. It is strictly prohibited to return your rental from outside of the UK or cross border.
